Vancouver Fashion Ezine Launch Party

Thank you Jackie and Emily my wicked supportive friends!
This past Monday night I attended the Vancouver Fashion Ezine Launch Party and had the pleasure of meeting many talented photographers, stylists, models, and dreamers alike in celebration of a new up and coming local magazine. As I took hardly any photographs of the evening myself I have posted some of Clints from Shutter Dreams Photography.

I am very excited at the possibility of working with those I met! I appear to have found a place for November and will be coordinating a move shortly. I can't wait to finally be settled in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Congratulations to Editor Marilyn Wilson and all the contributors of the fall issue. It's a good one!

Clogs and Socks

 Shoes: Aldo
Vest: Community
Belt: Wilfred
Dress: Only
Necklace: Le Chateau
Nylons: RW & Co.
Socks: ???

I promise before the end of the year I am going to buy a proper camera and I will take the most ungodly freaking wonderful photos ever. Until then I must make due with crap lighting. Oh well.

On another note, I have never worn socks with heels before, nor have I ever worn clogs and look at me here killing two birds with one stone. I feel like a champ aside from the fact that the socks are my mothers which I had to return promptly *bows head in shame*. If anyone knows where a wicked place to buy socks is please tell me! I want to invest in some really cute ones for the fall.

Trend Spotting: Maxi Skirts

How to Wear a Maxi Skirt
  • Because your lower body is swamped in free loose fabric you want to give yourself some form on the upper half. Wear a fitted top/jacket, tuck your top in, pull a waist belt over your skirt, or even show some belly in a cropped top like the girl on top above.
  • Unless you are wearing a floor sweeping maxi length skirt you want the bottom of the skirt to hit below the half way point of your calves (where your legs are at their narrowest).
  • If you are shorter you will want to skip on any heels with ankle straps as they will abrupt the eye line and therefore shorten the appearance of your legs.
  • For those that are under 5'5" you may want to wear platform heels or wedges of some sort to counteract any swamping effect a long skirt will have on your frame (this will in fact create the illusion that you are taller). A drooping V-neck will also help lengthen out your body.
  • Lastly, have fun! Maxi length skirts are dramatic and command attention so go for it. Fur vests, motorcycle jackets, gladiator heels etc...unless you are wearing a skirt with an interesting print you will be a blank slate unless you add some flair.

Emily DiDonato: Numéro No. 117 October 2010

Numéro No. 117 October 2010

It's so refreshing to see a photoshoot that highlights the vibrant blue hues of water after so many black and white prints that are so prominently featured in jewelry ads. Looking at these make me wonder how a designer like David Yurman could ever choose otherwise. The golden stacked arms against the aquamarine ripples is just stunning.

I feel like Emily could be a mermaid in all the finely textured clothing. She gives really good neck doesn't she? A couple of the shots are borderline Sports Illustrated, but I quite enjoy a good Baywatch hair flip. Who doesn't really?

Morning Beauty: Claudia Schiffer by Camilla Akrans

You do not need many props for someone with an iconic face. Their beauty can fill an entire room. I love the simplicity of this editorial. It could easily be mundane with its bare setting and monotone wardrobe, but it isn't. Just as a quiet voice compels us to listen more carefully, a tranquil photograph draws us in.

Best Run On Sentence Ever

and i want to play hide and seek and give you my clothes and tell you i like your shoes and sit on the steps while you take a bath and kiss your feet and hold your hand and go for a meal and not mind when you eat my food and talk about the day and laugh at your paranoia and give you tapes you don’t listen to and watch great films and watch terrible films and take pictures of you when you’re sleeping and drink coffee at midnight and have you steal my cigarettes and never be able to find a match and want you in the morning but let you sleep for a while and kiss your back and stroke your skin and tell you how much i love your hair your eyes your lips your neck your breasts your arse and sit on the steps smoking till your neighbour comes home and sit on the steps smoking till you come home and worry when you're late and be amazed when you’re early and give you sunflowers and be sorry when i'm wrong and happy when you forgive me and look at your photos and wish i'd known you forever and hear your voice in my ear and feel your skin on my skin and get scared when you're angry and hug you when you’re anxious and hold you when you hurt and want you when i smell you and get cold when you take the blanket and hot when you don’t and melt when you smile and dissolve when you laugh and wonder who you are but accept you anyway and write poems for you and wonder why you don’t believe me and have a feeling so deep i can’t find words for it and buy you presents you don’t want and take them away again and ask you to marry me and you say no again but keep on asking because though you think i don't mean it i do always have from the first time i asked you and want what you want and think i'm losing myself but know i’m safe with you and tell you the worst of me and try to give you the best of me because you don’t deserve any less and answer your questions when i’d rather not and tell you the truth when i really don’t want to and try to be honest because i know you prefer it and forget who i am and try to get closer to you and speak german to you badly and hebrew to you worse and make love with you at three in the morning and somehow somehow somehow communicate some of the overwhelming undying overpowering unconditional all-encompassing heart-enriching mind-expanding on-going never-ending love i have for you.

I love the idea of using hazy lighting to portray the concept of a dream. It's as if you've just woken up and the sleep in your eyes is obstructing your vision. A very lovely summer shifting  into autumn shoot.
